Novum Marlborough Pinot Noir (2020)

It's hard to pin down details about the precise geographic origins of Novum wines, but owners Will Hoare and Rachel Jackson-Hoare seek to showcase "Marlborough's very best parcels from within the best vineyards themselves – the sites within sites." The lovely 2020 vintage (5*) was matured for a year in French oak barrels (30 per cent new). Full, bright ruby, it has an invitingly perfumed, savoury bouquet. Mouthfilling, it has rich, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent complexity, suppleness and harmony. Youthful, but already approachable, it's well worth cellaring to 2025+.
