Named after a paper-thin shell, the estate-grown 2020 vintage (5*) was hand-harvested from mature vines (over 25 years old) at Renwick, in the heart of the Wairau Valley, and fermented and matured for nine months in an 1800-litre French oak foudre and a 3000-litre French oak cuve. Bright, light lemon/green, it is a distinctive, fleshy, sweet-fruited wine, highly fragrant, with tropical fruit flavours, showing excellent complexity, balanced acidity and a dry (3 grams/litre of residual sugar), very long finish. A classy, finely structured wine, it should be at its best mid-2022+.
