For Mission's classy Reserve Chardonnay, the aim is a wine that 'emphasises fruit characters rather than oak, but offers some of the benefits of fermentation and maturation in wood'. The youthful 2021 vintage (4.5*) was fermented and lees-aged for nine months in French oak barrels. Bright, light yellow/green, it is fragrant and mouthfilling, with generous, ripe stonefruit flavours, showing very good complexity, balanced acidity and a slightly creamy texture. Already highly approachable, it should be at its best 2024+.
