Misha's Vineyard Lyric Central Otago Riesling (2019)

This is the sort of 'dry' Riesling New Zealand needs a lot more of. Estate-grown and hand- harvested at Bendigo, the classy, distinctive 2019 vintage (5*) is fractionally off-dry (4 grams/litre of residual sugar). It was mostly handled in tanks, but 25 per cent of the blend was fermented with indigenous yeasts in old French oak barrels. Bright, light lemon/green, it is medium to full-bodied, with deep, citrusy, limey flavours, dry but not austere, very good complexity, and a finely structured, long finish. Already approachable, it should be at its best for drinking 2023+. (Note: this wine was not produced in 2017 or 2018.)
