Hans Herzog Marlborough Montepulciano (2018)

This classy, estate-grown red is typically overflowing with sweet-fruit flavours. The 2018 vintage (5*) was hand-harvested on the north side of the Wairau Valley, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and matured for two and a half years in French oak casks (partly new). Deeply coloured, it has a fragrant, fresh bouquet of berries, plums and spices. Mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, it is concentrated and vigorous, with savoury notes adding complexity, good tannin backbone, and a finely poised, lasting finish. Likely to be long-lived, it should be at its best 2023+. Certified organic.
