Hans Herzog Marlborough Blaufrankisch (2019)

From a variety praised by UK writer Hugh Johnson as "Austria's star red", the 2019 vintage (5*) is New Zealand's first example of Blaufrankisch. Matured for 18 months in French oak barriques, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Deep and youthful in colour, it is packed with fresh cherry, plum and spice flavours, gently seasoned with oak. Almost exuberantly fruity, it is highly concentrated, with vibrant acidity and supple tannins. Well worth cellaring, it's certified organic.
