Greywacke Marlborough Wild Sauvignon (2019)

This is a leading example of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from well outside the mainstream. Grown in the Southern Valleys and the central Wairau Valley, the notably classy 2019 vintage (5*) was fermented with indigenous yeasts in mostly old French oak barriques (8 per cent new), and barrel-aged for a year. Bright, light yellow/green, it is fragrant, weighty and complex, with deep, ripe, tropical fruit flavours, gently seasoned with oak, and a finely textured, dry finish. A rich, sweet-fruited, very harmonious wine, it's a drink-now or cellaring proposition.
