Fromm Fromm Vineyard Pinot Noir (2019)

Winemaker Hätsch Kalberer describes this Marlborough red as 'not a typical New World style, but the truest expression of terroir you could find'. In the Fromm Vineyard near Renwick, in the heart of the Wairau Valley, many clones of Pinot Noir are close-planted on a flat site with alluvial topsoils overlying layers of clay and free-draining gravels. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts, matured for 17-18 months in Burgundy oak barrels, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Certified organic, the 2019 vintage (5*) is crying out for more time. Full-coloured, it is a 'serious', savoury style, with rich cherry, plum and spice flavours, earthy notes adding complexity, and good tannin backbone.
