Brookfields Hillside Syrah (2020)

This distinguished red is grown on a sheltered, north-facing slope between Maraekakaho and Bridge Pa, in Hawke's Bay (described by winemaker Peter Robertson as 'surreal – a chosen site'), and matured in French oak barriques (mostly new). The 2019 vintage (5*) is a lovely young wine – dark, rich and fragrant, with mouthfilling body, dense plum, spice and black pepper flavours, and a finely structured finish. Best drinking 2024+. Still very youthful, the 2020 vintage (5*) is a refined, deeply coloured, highly fragrant red. Mouthfilling and supple, it is elegant, with concentrated plum and spice flavours, a hint of liquorice, and a lasting finish. Best drinking 2025+.
