Tiratore is Bilancia's 'single vineyard, flagship Chardonnay' from the lower slopes of la collina Vineyard at Roys Hill, Hawke's Bay. The goal is a 'tighter, food-friendly wine that will age gracefully'. From vines planted in 2001, the fragrant 2019 vintage (5*) was matured for 11 months in French oak puncheons and barriques. A lovely young wine, it is very elegant and tight-knit, with deep grapefruit and peach flavours, finely integrated oak, and a well-rounded, very persistent finish. Still a baby, the 2020 vintage (5*) is a powerful, fragrant wine, with intense, citrusy, mealy flavours, gently seasoned with biscuity oak, and a very harmonious, long finish. A classic cellaring style, it's well worth keeping to mid-2023+.
