Sacred Hill Brokenstone

Review:

Merlot-based, this is a typically outstanding Hawke’s Bay red from the Gimblett Gravels (principally the company’s Deerstalkers Vineyard). The highly attractive 2015 vintage (5*), matured for 19 months in French oak casks (22 per cent new), is Merlot-dominant (87 per cent), with minor portions of Malbec (4 per cent), Syrah (4 per cent), Cabernet Sauvignon (3 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (2 per cent). Full-coloured, it is vibrantly fruity, with concentrated, ripe, plummy, spicy flavours, well-integrated oak, savoury notes adding complexity, and supple tannins. Already delicious, it should be at its best 2021+.
