Riverby Estate Marlborough Noble Riesling

Review:

Tasted together in mid-2019, the 2016 to 2018 vintages were an impressive trio. Estate-grown at Rapaura, the 2018 (5*) is golden, with rich, peachy, honeyed aromas and flavours, a strong botrytis influence, and a sweet (187 grams/litre of residual sugar), finely poised finish; best drinking mid-2020+. The 2017 vintage (4*) shows some development, with very good flavour depth, gentle honeyed notes, and a sweet (157 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Delicious now, the 2016 vintage (5*) is amber-hued, with apricot and honey flavours, sweet (200 grams/litre of residual sugar), and highly concentrated. The 2019 vintage (4.5*), tasted in mid to late 2020, is golden, with a honeyed bouquet. Already drinking well, it is rich, sweet (180 grams/litre of residual sugar) and smooth, with strong, ripe, peachy flavours, balanced acidity, and a very harmonious finish.
