Pegasus Bay Sauvignon/Sémillon

Review:

This distinctive Waipara, North Canterbury wine is concentrated and complex, with loads of personality. It is typically a 70:30 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, partly (35 per cent) fermented and matured in French oak barrels. From vines over 30 years old, the 2017 vintage (5*) is bright, light yellow/green, with a complex bouquet. Crisp, full-bodied and dry (0.9 grams/litre of residual sugar), it is a youthful, very vigorous wine, with ripe tropical-fruit flavours, a subtle seasoning of oak, fresh acidity, and a tightly structured, lasting finish. Full of personality, the 2018 vintage (5*) is mouthfilling and very youthful. Mouthfilling, it has intense peachy, limey flavours, a gentle seasoning of oak adding complexity, and a fully dry (1.2 grams/litre of residual sugar), long finish. Best drinking 2023+.
