Passage Rock Waiheke Island Magnus

Review:

The classy 2019 vintage (5*) is a rare marriage of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano, Merlot and Malbec, grown on Waiheke Island and blended from the top six barrels. Dark and full-bodied, it has dense blackcurrant, plum, spice and nutty oak flavours, showing excellent complexity, and firm, ripe tannins. A memorable mouthful, it should flourish for a decade. The 2015 vintage (4.5*) has deep, still moderately youthful colour. A powerful, distinctive red, with deep blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours, and an earthy streak, it would surely stir things up in a ‘blind’ tasting.
