Greenhough Hope Vineyard Nelson Pinot Noir

Review:

One of Nelson’s greatest reds, at its best powerful, rich and long-lived. It is estate-grown and hand-picked on an elevated terrace of the south-eastern Waimea Plains, where the vines, planted in gravelly loam clays, have an average age of over 20 years. Yields are very low – 4 to 5 tonnes of grapes per hectare – and the wine is matured for about a year in French oak barriques (15 per cent new in 2017). Certified organic, the 2017 vintage (4.5*) was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bright ruby, it is mouthfilling, with strong, plummy, spicy flavours, complex and savoury. A youthful, well-structured red with cellaring potential, it should be at its best 2021+.
