Fromm Fromm Vineyard Pinot Noir

Review:

Winemaker Hätsch Kalberer describes this Marlborough red as ‘not a typical New World style, but the truest expression of terroir you could find’. In the Fromm Vineyard near Renwick, in the heart of the Wairau Valley, many clones of Pinot Noir are close-planted on a flat site with alluvial topsoils overlying layers of clay and free-draining gravels. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts, matured for 18 months in Burgundy oak barrels (five in 2017), and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Certified organic, the 2018 vintage (4.5*) is a bright ruby, mouthfilling red, with youthful, well-ripened cherry, plum, spice and nutty oak flavours, a slightly earthy streak, savoury notes adding complexity, and moderately firm tannins. Best drinking 2023+.
