Fromm Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir

Review:

This acclaimed Marlborough red is grown and hand-harvested on north-facing clay slopes at Clayvin Vineyard, in the Brancott Valley, fermented with indigenous yeasts, matured in French oak barriques, and bottled without fining or filtering. In its youth, it is more floral and charming than its Fromm Vineyard stablemate. Certified organic, the 2018 vintage (4.5*), from a “very difficult year”, is “arguably the most refined and and understated Clayvin Pinot Noir we have been privileged to make.” Ruby hued, it is savoury, supple and silky-textured, with gentle cherry, strawberry and spice flavours, a hint of herbs, and excellent ripeness, complexity and harmony. Clearly a lighter year, but structured and ageworthy, it should be at its best for drinking 2023+.
