Elephant Hill Airavata Hawke’s Bay Syrah

Review:

An emerging star. The powerful 2018 vintage (5*) was estate-grown and hand-harvested in the Gimblett Gravels (83 per cent) and the Bridge Pa Triangle (17 per cent), and matured for 20 months in French oak casks (52 per cent new). Deeply coloured, with a fragrant, slightly earthy bouquet, it is mouthfilling, savoury and supple, with deep, plummy, spicy flavours, showing excellent ripeness, complexity and harmony. Still youthful, but already delicious, it’s well worth cellaring to 2023+.
