Clos Henri Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Review:

The Clos Henri Vineyard near Renwick is owned by Henri Bourgeois, a leading, family-owned producer in the Loire Valley, who feels this wine expresses ‘a unique terroir . . . and French winemaking approach’. A sophisticated and distinctive Sauvignon Blanc, in top years it’s a joy to drink. Certified organic, the 2019 vintage (5*) was hand-picked and mostly fermented and matured on its yeast lees in tanks; 10 per cent was fermented and aged in French oak barrels. Bright, light lemon/green, it is weighty and fleshy, with concentrated, tropical fruit flavours, showing good complexity, and a rich, dry, well-rounded finish. Drink now or cellar.
