Church Road McDonald Series Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon

Review:

This consistently impressive wine is grown principally in the company’s Redstone Vineyard, in the Bridge Pa Triangle. The 2017 vintage (4.5*), which includes 12 per cent Merlot, is a very age-worthy, harmonious red, matured for 18 months in French (mostly) and Hungarian oak barrels (30 per cent new). Dark and youthful, it is mouthfilling, with concentrated blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, nutty and savoury, excellent complexity, and supple tannins. Best drinking 2022+.
